Comic Book Flatting

HELP! Help with layers on GIMP?

I can't afford Photoshop and I need to add comic-book style flat colors UNDERNEATH a line drawing, FAST. I keep ending up covering up the linework, or else having color on a layer that disppears when I merge the layers. All I want to be able to do is have the linework merge down and overlap the color. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I dunno, man. I created three layers, drew on all of them, then merged from the top down and it worked fine. You can also try saving the image without merging the layers. When I tried to save it as a .jpg, it prompted me to flatten the image before exporting.

What version are you using? Mine is...GIMP 2.4.0-rc3

I hope someone else can help you solve this problem.

Comic Book Character Battles VI Marvel and DC. Can you explain to me who wins?

I started by doing the battles in a sort-of NCAA bracket but found it quite unnecessary to do so and impossible to post on here. I have roughly 200 characters in the bracket and I will be posting 5 battles for discussion each day until the outcome is resolved. Battles may include Marvel and DC. Single Elimination. Neutral Flat Ground in Forest area.(NO ADVANCED POWERS such as King Thor or Cosmic Spiderman etc.) My friend and I have similar outcomes in each bracket. But it's nice to get different opinions. "So please validate you're opinions on who wins and why with a sentence explanation or more for each battle".

1) Lizard: While more Feral, he'd attack Toad with such Fury he'd do what he always does. Run away.
2) Robin: Zemo was nothing more then a cheap commander. Robin would out fight and out think him.
3) Ultron: I like Colossus but Ultron is always learning and evolving. If he can take a blow from Thor, he'd survive one from Colossus.
4) Doc Ock: Again it comes down to brains, Red is more of a fighter but Ock could pin his hands thereby eliminating control of his tentacles to a degree , wrap those up with his other two then choke red to death. Boom Omega Dead.
5) Dr. Doom: his Armor is Superiour, he practices the Dark Arts and he's the 2nd or 3rd smartest man on earth. Against a lumbering dumb russian (comic portrayal) he'd beat him without raising his glove more then once.
6) Darkhawk: Considering we're now really seeing what the Raptor Armor is capable of, I don't think Vulture would stand a chance.
7) Ugh...Blob: Yes Kingpin's formidiable and smarter but out in a forest? He might as well be fighting a mountain.
Apocalyse: The strong would clearly survive because Warlock wouldn't be able to damage him.
9) Batman: Do you really want an answer to this? He fought Cap to a Standstill and both are clearly much better fighters then Nick Fury.
10) (Should have been 2) Beta Ray Bill: Storm Breaker would reign just as much fury down on the Super Skrull as Mjolnir would.
