How to create a graphic novel company?
Could somone give me some tips (professional advice preferably) on how i can start my own graphic novel distributing bussiness.
I would like to know roughly what it takes, i have thought about creating a graphic novel company later in life.
just any ideas on how i could get started please. thank you 
Okay well first things first. Diamond distribution has pretty much a monopoly on the comic book/graphic novel distribution and a lot of the big names (Marvel) sell exclusivel to them
Check out how to make a graphic novel at your local bookstore (usually in the art section or graphic novel sections) i know barnes and noble have them and so does borders. i've seen them recently.
on the smallest front, I would say you'd get the graphic novels made (if you're not doing the storylines or whatever yourself, audition for the best stories. get them made by going to a printing place, you also have to get ISBN numbers. i don't know how to get that, unless you put the price on the front like some comic books stilll do), then you're gonna have to go to alll the places you think will buy your items and usually you'lll sell them to the people, bookstores, comic shops for like 40-60% off the price (you'll have to make a contract and unless you have connections, or your stuff is the BUSINESS, then they might want a refund guarantee, which isn't the case with comics usually but magazines in stores have that clause). That's the smallest gist of it. So if you gotta call comic stores and send one book for them to look at and try to get them to buy five copies cool. 5 copies one store say for $10 (50% off) that's 50 dollars you made (minus making the graphic novel unless you get the person who created that to do it), shipping and handling, and employee fees. so do that ten times and you made 500 bucks. 100 copies 5000 bucks.
I'd advise HIGHLY that you market and promote the books so that you get paid, popular, and have others send stuff to you to distribute.
Also go to the SBA in your city and get the notebook on distribution, that might help.

How did the graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns influence the film?
I am writing an essay and I need to know how the graphic novel influenced the movie visually and conceptually. If you could help me out it would be much appreciated!
In all honesty, the stories are nothing alike. The Dark Knight Returns is about an older Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement as Batman in a world that is deeply sinking into crime and smut.
Visually, they are pretty separate as well. Although they both retain a dark and gritty feel, the comic is definitely "dirtier" feeling. The movie is a lot more clean and polished.
However, they are similar in their dark tone. They take place in a world that is not perfect with heroes that are not perfect and endings that are not particularly happy ones. I'd say that the film would not exist if not for the comic.
I believe there is a steampunkish graphic novel called Legends. It's like the graphic novel(s) of Fables, based on fairy tale characters, but in Legends they are set into a dark, merciless steampunk dystopia (and in Fables, they're just trying to survive in the modern day wilderness of New York City!
). I have not read Legends but it may be worth investigating.
