First Issues

Do you vote just because you can? Or do you actually research the issues first?
Be honest.
I'll be old enough to vote for the first time by the time November comes around but I still don't know if I'll actually vote or not. (Not very found of any of the candidates)
i listen, learn, and look at their voting records, i read all i can about them..not just their web pages, too much hot air..they want to look good.
look at their associates. that can tell you much about their views as most people 'hang' with people who similar goals and values.
look at what they promise to do, if elected. are these promises realistic, can thiese actually be done and if so, what is the cost to American tax payers as this will affect our economy. what are the 'intended' consequences if done and what are the possible 'unintended' consequences. this is a process requiring both the president and congress. a president cannot expect totally agreement with them, even when they are the same political affiliation.
do they vote their concensne or do they vote straight party issues every time, since all three have senate voting records.
look at bills that they purpose that have actually PASSED..are they 'vanity' bills, relevant bills or just bills. there is a huge difference. do they have a record of ear marks....there are so many things to consider before makiing an informed vote. Good Luck!
how do they stand on education, health care, etc but most importantly can it really be done as they promised.
how do they feel about foreign affairs. do they support allies or do they think we give too much support to allies and not enough to others.
many things you can look at then you must decide who best represents the values you think are important.

Alex Talks to First Time Callers on A Host of Issues 1/2
Can someone link me to some current articles that deal with first ammendment issues in them?
Please? I need them to deal with the first ammendment and freedom of speech and junk. And they have to be current (within 6 months at most)
Here's a portion of an article - you can read more about it on the site I've provided:
Wednesday night, while President Barack Obama held his televised press conference marking his first 100 days in office, the federal hate crimes bill -- HR 1913, the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 -- passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 249 to 175.
But not everyone believes this piece of legislation is a great idea. They are cautioning many supporters that such a law is a two-edged sword and may have unintended consequences that includes misuse by overzealous and politically motivated prosecutors.
Critics fear that this legislation would prosecute individuals not on the basis of their crimes but on their alleged motivations for committing those crimes. It requires law enforcement officials and prosecutors to gather evidence of the offender's thoughts rather than of his actions and his criminal intent.
Some of the provisions contained in HR 1913 include:
• Federalization of crimes that already are being effectively prosecuted by our States and local governments.
• The forcing of law enforcement officials and prosecutors to gather evidence of the offender's thoughts and words, regardless of the criminality of his actions.
• Blurring the line between violent belief, which is constitutionally protected, and violent action, which is not.
"The First Amendment of our Constitution was crafted because our Founding Fathers recognized that the freedom of thought and belief is the cornerstone of every other freedom. It is the foundation of liberty itself, because, without it, every other freedom, including the freedom of speech, becomes meaningless," warned Congressman Trent Franks of Texas during the debate on the House floor.
