Marvel Monsters
Do you think the way DC has handled Captain Marvel over the years good or not?
I'm been watching old Captain Marvel and Isis reruns and think those shows made him out to be a much better character then DC has?He was more a real hero helping people then just fighting monsters and bad guys? You know what I mean. He was clean cut with not bad character traits like today's so called "heros".
I think that Captain Marvel would have become more popular if he had not only gotten his own book, but had top-quality, high profile team of writers (e.g, Geoff Johns, Paul Dini, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, etc) and artists (e.g Jim Lee, Chris Bachallo, Adi Granov, Salvador Larocca, etc) doing his stories.
I personally feel that keeping him in JSA, and giving him a lesser role in comic books, and not having a high profile creative team has really hindered the development of the character over the years in terms of popularity and role in the DC universe.
Take Iron Man from Marvel Comics for example; Prior to 2004, he wasn't nearly as popular as Spider-man, Wolverine, or Daredevil. But then after Warren Ellis and Adi Granov's run on Iron man, and Brian Michael Bendis' run on the New Avengers, Iron man is now the most recognizable Superhero in Marvel Comics.
I won't deny that the recent Iron Man movie helped push up his popularity as a character, but like the comics, the movie was produced by a successful, and high profile team of actors, directors, writer's and producers. Another thing is that many of the themes and elements in the movie were borrowed from Warren Ellis and Adi Granov's Iron Man. Pick up a copy of "Invincible Iron Man: Extremis" and you'll notice that this comic story arc had a huge influence on the movie.
I guess the message I'm trying to convey is that, basically, Captain Marvel would be more famous today if he was handled by a better creative team.
