I want to join as active but i would have to retake the asvab to score higher. i want to go because i want to get away from new orleans i want to travel i want a foundation incase my art doesnt make it in this world . but i know i can be succesful without the military if i work hard with my art i am confused

Look at what jobs the Navy offers. I think they call them ratings.

I'm going to Air Force basic training soon. In the Air Force, there are 4 year contracts and 6 year contracts (enlisted) Signing the 6 year contract gives you the sign on bonus. This is in the Air Force.

If you want the full experience of the Navy go active. If you want to be a weekend warrior go reserve.

I'm kind of on the same level as you. I play piano. I won't be able to practice regularly on base but I will be setting up my future so I can later on in life.

Do what makes you happy and content. Don't do what makes you sad and alone.

Joining the uniformed services will give you many benefits. Benefits such as friends, $money and experiences.

Be smart about it. If you want a specific job. Get a guaranteed contract.

Don't join the services if your lazy or un-motivated.

Most of the people that join come from rough backrounds to make bright futures. I have met many, many service members in the past few months. I never knew that military life was content as it is.

But if you decide to join you will be locked into a contract. However, you will have a stable job. Air Force paychecks are on the 1st and 15th of every month. I don't know about the Navy.

If you decide to go career, you could sign up for the Navy for so and so years. Than you could switch over to the Air Force, Army, Marines, Coast Guard, etc... and you will still be on the same retirement path. Set up your financial future so you can focus on your aesthetic one. I'd imagine you could still draw, paint, sketch while on active duty.

Good luck in your decisions.
