What is the official word on the story continuing? i mean what does george lucas approve? is there going to be a #7,, and im not talking about a youtube fan script.
thanks for the answers.
To get the "big picture" on this you need a little background info on the story itself and its creator.
When Lucas first started with the idea of Star Wars it was a 12 part series to be told in the fashion of the old Flash Gordon serials of the late 60s. Lucas realized pretty early on that this wouldn't work so he cut it down to a 9 part story. The first trilogy was to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker ... the second trilogy was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker ... the third trilogy was to be about the "other Skywalker" that Yoda speaks of in ep V.
The third trilogy was eliminated by the way Lucas made the OT of episodes 4 - 6. Lucas ran into a huge problem while writing the final duel between Luke and Vader in ep 6. Remember when Luke is hiding from Vader and refusing to fight him? Lucas was stumped on what Vader could say to Luke to have him attack his father in a dark side fueled rage. He solved this problem by making Leia the "other Skywalker" and having Vader threaten her. This one change had two major effects ... 1.) It made hard core fans say EEWWWW ... he kissed his sister on the lips ... TWICE ... lol ... 2.) It eliminated the story line he had set for the third trilogy.
The only thing that has the Lucas "official" stamp as continuing the story is the 3 book series dubbed "The Thrawn Trilogy". They include the books titled "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", & "The Last Command". They are set 5 years after the events of ep VI and were written, brilliantly if I say so myself, by Timothy Zahn. The will NOT ever be made into "live action" movies. There has been some talk, due to the overwhelming fan approval of the recent animated movie and series, that they may come out in an animated form but as a straight to DVD kind of story. There is little more than talk about it as of yet but as a life long fan I would put the odds of seeing these in the next 10 years at about 50/50.
There are many other books and comics stories of Star Wars out there and while they ARE sanctioned by Lucas he has not put the "official" brand to them as of yet. I think we will see that happen in the next few years also.
As for the "new" cartoons and other animated stuff ... that DOES have the "official" stamp on them from Lucas. All of them are set in between episodes 2 & 3. There are two different sets of animated stories.
The first ones were done in 2003. If you notice we really don't see much of the "Clone Wars" in the movies. Episode 2 basically ends with the start of the Clone Wars. Episode 3 basically shows how the Clone Wars ended. That leaves 3 years of info about the many battles of the Clone Wars untold. To start the build up to the release of ep 3 Lucas sanctioned the Cartoon Network to do series of animated short stories about the Clone Wars. These have become known as The Clone Wars Micro-Series Volume # 1. They consisted of twenty 5 minute short stories about the battles of the Clone Wars. They were wildly popular among fans so Lucas sanctioned the Cartoon Network to do what has become known as The Clone Wars Micro-Series Volume # 2. They consisted of five 5 minute short stories about more battles of the Clone Wars with the last of those short stories ending right where ep 3 started.
In February of this year, 2008, word came that Lucas was again going to do more animated Clone Wars stories this time done by the new division of LucasFilm, Lucas Animation. This was also to air on the Cartoon Network. To kick this off Lucas put out a full length animated movie titled Star Wars The Clone Wars ... it was in theaters in August of this year. This movie was in effect the "pilot episode" of the new series that is now airing on the Cartoon Network at 9pm every Friday night. Many have thought that this new movie and series was just a remake of the previous Micro-Series ... it is NOT. It tells us more about the many battles of the Clone Wars. The following is how it "plugs" into the time line of the movies:
Lucas also confirmed in February that he is working on a "live action" TV series that will be set in between ep III & ep IV. This new series will NOT have any of the "major" characters in it. It will tell the story of the formation of the Rebel Alliance and their early battles against the Empire leading up to the events of ep IV. This show is to debut in the fall of 2010.
Any info found on supershadow.com is totally and completely FALSE ... the site is a total fraud.

Star Wars question...?
I was wondering if George Lucas had ever thought of writing a book or screenplay for the events in between episode 3 and episode 4 .....I mean if you really think about it thats a pretty large gap in time..I mean how old was look in episode 4 like 20?? im not sure...
Also I know Lucas had talked about starting the next star wars trilogy episode 7,8,9 but he wants to wait like 10 years for when fans are ready ...so are 7,8,9 going to be the books like Star Wars: Dark Force Rising & The Last Command ?? sorry I forget the name of volume 1
First of all, God help us if Lucas ever decides to write a "book" ... he has other people, who are actually good writers, write the books.
The time period between ep 3 & ep 4 is between 18 & 19 years. Lucas is doing a "Live-Action" TV show that will cover the time period between ep 3 & ep 4. It will show the formation of the Rebel Alliance and the early fight against the Empire. There is also a animated series planned that will give us more info on the Clone Wars.
The trilogy of books that you mention is known as The Thrawn Trilogy ... it consists of "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", & "The Last Command".
Second, Lucas has NO PLANS to do ep 7 - 9 as they DO NOT exist anymore. When Lucas first had the idea to do Star Wars there were actually 12 "episodes" ... he thought to do them in the same way the old Flash Gordon series were done but realized that wouldn't be feasible so he then came up with a 9 episode, 3 trilogy outline. You hear all kinds of reasons as to why Lucas started with ep 4 but most are big time wrong. The REAL reason he started with ep 4 was because it could be a "stand alone" movie ... by that I mean if that had been the only movie made it would have told what would have appeared to be a complete story. Why would he do it like that ... simple actually ... almost everyone, including Lucas to a certain extent, thought the movie was going to be a monumental flop. If that had happened we would have never needed to know that there were other "parts" of the story and wouldn't have cared. Nobody would know who George Lucas was and the film industry, in regards to special effects and such, would have remained in the "dark ages". As we all know it wasn't a flop and with that one movie Lucas turned Hollywood on it's ear. Now, as for why ep 7 - 9 don't exist anymore. First, yeah, I'm sure if he wanted to he could write screenplays for them but he couldn't use any of the books of the EU (Expanded Universe) because the "Big 3" of Luke, Leia, & Han are in them. Harrison Ford is on record saying that he will not play Han Solo again (Lucas had to almost beg him to be in Return Of The Jedi because Ford didn't think the character would advance the story ... good think Lucas is a BS master), Mark Hamil has said that he would wear the robes of a Jedi again but that Lucas has told him that there are no plans for any more movies, Carrie Fisher, well not to be too cruel but her "metal bikini" days are far behind her ... very far behind her. I may be alone in this but if those 3 parts were played by different actors it would throw the "natural balance" of the universe into chaos. Ok, that's a little "intense" but you get the picture. He could take the story some different way that what has been told in the books but that would be suicide for him with the fans of the EU because we would be forming militant groups to storm Skywalker Ranch with the intent of smacking some sense into him ... lol ... the only way that he could do 7 - 9 that would ruffle the least amount of feathers, not that he has ever cared about that before, would be to take the story far enough into the future that the "Big 3" are dead and start out with another bunch of unknown actors and see if he could make them into superstars. Whoa ... sorry I got a little sidetracked there ... back to why 7 - 9 don't exist anymore. The first trilogy was supposed to be about the rise of Anakin Skywalker and his fall to the dark side, the second trilogy was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, the third trilogy was to be about the "other Skywalker" that Yoda mentions in ep 5. When Lucas started writing the screenplay for ep 6 Leia was NOT Luke's sister ... she was NOT the "other Skywalker" ... even in the first rough drafts she was still not the "other". When Lucas started to flesh out the outline for ep 6 he ran into a big problem. It was during the duel between Luke and Vader on Death Star 2. There is a part in the duel where Luke basically has given up and is refusing to fight his father. This was the big problem ... what could Vader do to make Luke fly off the handle and attack him in a dark side powered rage ... the solution Lucas came up with was for Vader to threaten Leia ... Luke's twin sister. Doing this had two major effects ... 1) Caused many fans to go "eeWWWW" when they remembered the kissing scenes ... 2) Took away the base storyline for the third trilogy ... basically "voided" it. Lucas has stated this over and over again when asked if he is going to make ep 7 - 9 ... now if you know even a little bit about Lucas you know that he changes his mind with the wind direction and it is usually very hard to get him to give any kind of a "firm" answer but this is the one answer he has given that has never changed since he first was asked it back in 2005 ... no, there will not be any more movies ... the story I wanted to tell has been told ... end of story. He has also been asked if he would consider letting some one else take over and make new movies and that answer is always not a chance in hell. The best evidence of this is an interview he did for 60 Minutes in 2005. I don't remember who was doing the interview but I do remember she asked these same two questions to him two or three different ways and his answer was always the same no matter how she asked the question. As a true "Star Wars Geek" I would love to see more movies but it's not going to happen.
Last but not least ... there is a site out there called supershadow.com ... it is run by a guy who claims to be an "insider" in LucasFilm and good friends with Lucas. It is simply not true ... the only people he knows from LucasFilm are the lawyers because of all the lawsuits they have filed against him. The man is a total and complete fraud ...
Yeah, I was relieved to like this one after being a little disappointed at the last few Lucas books. Hope you like it
I don't think it needs any more.
